Here is my showcase of my diabolical solo piano work, An American Toccata, written over the course of 2008 to 2013. It was written with three elements in mind: Medieval modes (the precursors to modern-day harmonic scales); Technical playing that entirely avoids the damper pedal; and Domenico Scarlatti’s crisp, sleek Baroque harpsichord sonatas.
It should be perceptible that my lyricism has taken a nasty dive due to a lack of steady piano practice (an average of about 1-2 hours total per week), but through my one God alone was I able to nail all of the notes in a self-recording of this extremely difficult yet divinely satisfying work. […]
Seeing as I recorded a bit of the Toccata in January, I feel it ought to be broadcasted more openly, so here it is. You may hear my amateur audio-editing of barbarically abrupt clipping between various sections; I had done up to seven retakes to weed out mistakes, and this recording is the compiled result. […]
